'A deviation that is unknown to the constitution,' Peter Obi condemned the release of Rivers who withdraw funds for a single administrator

A former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, has criticized the imposition of an emergency in the state of Rivers by the President of Bola Tinubu.

The president last Tuesday stated an emergency in an oil -rich state.

He also suspected Governor Siminilayi Fubara, his deputy, and a member of the River State Council of the Prolonged Crisis.

The former governor in a statement distributed in his X grip on Monday, argued that the step was a deviation that was unknown to the Nigerian Constitution.

He stressed that the release of the Rivers's allocation held to the only state administrator, the representative of the Ibok-Ete Iba (Retd), although there were orders from the Supreme Court were dangerous precedents that were able to erode democracy obtained with difficulty in the country.

Ibas on Friday confirmed the exemption of the allocation of local government which was deducted for the government.

Obi writes: “What is happening in the current country because it is related to a river state is a deviation, it is unknown to our constitution and must be condemned by every intelligent thoughts.

“What we witnessed in the state of Rivers is a brave disobedience and ignores the rule of law and the principles of our democracy.

“The decision to release the legal allocation to the designated single administrator, although there is a fixed order from the Supreme Court, not only violates the law – it is a direct challenge for the highest court authority of our country.

“The Supreme Court has explicitly banned the Nigerian Central Bank (CBN) and the Federation Accountant General (AGF) from releasing this fund to the House of the Assembly that was formed correctly from passing valid allocation actions.

“However, we see the situation where this order is ignored. This raises serious moral intentions, and questions about what happened in the state of Rivers.

“By ignoring the Supreme Court's decision, those involved in establishing dangerous precedents. CBN and AGF, institutions intended to enforce the law, may not be involved in this neglect of our court.

“We cannot build a country where those who vow to uphold our constitution and comply with the law do the opposite.

“This is about more than just a river state; this is about protecting our democracy, and our existence as a nation.

“A country cannot function where the rule of law is stepped on, where the separation of power is ignored, and where the judicial decision is treated as a mere suggestion.

“If we continue in this way, we damage the future of our democracy. We must choose to do the right – to respect the law and uphold the principles that bind us as a nation.”
