Nigerian comedian Freedom Okpetoritse Atsepoyi, known as Jollof, courted controversy after claiming he had enjoyed a stable electricity supply since President Bola Ahmed Tinubu took office.
The comedian made this claim in a video shared on his Instagram page, where he described the increase in electricity supply in his area.
His statement quickly sparked debate online, with many Nigerians refuting the claim as communities across the country continued to report frequent power outages.
In the video, Jollof emphasized that he was speaking from personal experience and was not ignoring the difficulties others have faced in dealing with unstable electricity.
“I have the right to share my personal experiences, just as other people have the right to express their views,” he said.

According to the comedian, electricity supply in his region has increased by around 85 percent compared to the previous administration, adding that the situation has stabilized enough that he no longer relies on inverters for electricity.
“I want to show how we can enjoy a stable electricity supply since President Bola Ahmed Tinubu came to power. The situation now is much better than before. I don’t even need an inverter anymore,” he said.
Jollof also emphasized that the current administration has introduced policies that allow states to generate and distribute electricity independently. This suggests that residents experiencing poor electricity supply should raise their concerns with the state government and concerned electricity authorities.
“Ask the governor or energy and energy commissioner why you don’t have electricity,” he said.
Despite the clarification, the video drew harsh criticism on social media, with some Nigerians accusing the comedian of defending the government at a time when many households and businesses continue to grapple with erratic electricity supplies and rising energy costs.
