With only 16 years, Chizaram “Chizzy” Ezenwata is quickly becoming a name to remember, not only in England, but possibly also in Nigeria.
The striker born in Nigeria limited an impressive 2024/2025 season by becoming the top scorer of Chelsea U18, accumulating 30 goals and 10 assists in a variety of elite competitions: the Premier League of the U18, the FA Youth Cup, the Premier League Cup and even the games with the National Team of England U17.

Chizzy’s trip has been anything but typical. He began his youth career as a defender at Tottenham Hotspur, before a change of position in Charlton Athletic unlocks his attack instincts. In two outstanding years in Charlton, he accumulated more than 100 goals and 50 assists, calling the eyes of several Premier League academies. Chelsea won the race for his firm after a trial in August 2023.
Since he joined Chelsea, Ezenwata has been a force of nature. Despite being eligible for U16 football, he left his mark on the U18 with goals in high pressure accessories, including a clinical orthopedic device against Brighton and a late attack in a close defeat by 3–2 against Arsenal.
He also starred in the beating of Chelsea 7–1 of Merstham in the FA Youth Cup, further consolidating his reputation as a reliable finishingr.
Chelsea U18 chief coach Hassan Sulaiman was full of praise:
“Chizzy is natural in front of the goal. His time, composure and mentality are rare for someone so young. He is showing signs of greatness.”
Although it currently represents England at level U17, Ezenwata is eligible for Nigeria, Cameroon and England. His father, Ndubuisi Ezenwata, a former Gombe United player, has not hidden his feelings about where his son’s international future should be:
“We would love to see Chizzy represent Nigeria. It’s home. He has the talent and pride of wearing that shirt,” he told local media.
That dream might not be far away. Fans and Nigerian explorers are watching closely, hoping that Chizzy’s breakup season will translate into future appearances for the Golden Eaglets, and perhaps one day, the Super Eagles.
Already signed with an agreement prior to the Scholarship for the 2025/2026 season in Chelsea, the sky seems to be the limit for this young acute, intelligent and dynamic striker.
Either in blue or green, Chizzy Ezenwata is a rising star, and his trip just begins.
