Abayomi Ayodeji announced himself in style, scoring his first league goal for Ikorodu City in their emphatic 4-3 victory over Warri Wolves in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) matchday 32 fixture in Lagos on Sunday.
The striker soon made an impact and put the hosts ahead in the 8th minute. Ayodeji showed great composure and skill, evading defenders before producing a classy finish to give Ikorodu City a dream start.
Ikorodu City doubled their lead in the 24th minute thanks to in-form forward Joseph Arumala, who scored his 11th goal of the season. The striker rose high to receive a well-taken corner from Tosin, directing a powerful header near the post out of the goalkeeper’s reach.
Ayodeji remained at the center of the action and played a crucial role in the third goal after brilliantly rounding the goalkeeper, his effort towards goal forced a defensive error, with a Warri Wolves defender inadvertently turning the ball into his own goal to make it 3-1.
The visitors managed to close the gap, but Ikorodu City maintained control of the match. Tosin Oyedokun later added the fourth goal for the Oga Boys, sealing a dominant performance and ensuring that the three points stayed in Lagos.
The win improves Ikorodu City’s position in the NPFL table, while Ayodeji’s outstanding performance will no doubt be a major talking point as he begins to find his rhythm in front of goal.
