Abia Gov Otti considers border security seriously after killing Chinese miners

Following the tragic murder of two Chinese citizens and a police escort in the state of Abia, Governor Alex Otti has promised to strengthen security collaboration with neighboring countries to prevent cross-border criminal activities.

The Governor of Otti made a commitment in responding to the deadly ambush that occurred last Saturday at a mining location in Uturu, within the regional government of Isuikwato. The victims, two Chinese workers, Mr. Quan and Mr. CAI, and Saidu Audu Inspector, fatal by unknown armed people, who also made officers.

The attack was reported to have occurred on Friday when the group was on his way to the Agukwu-Amaya mining site, which is located in the Ndundu community in the same local government.

In a statement issued by his median advisor, Ferdinand Ekeoma, the governor condemned the murder as a “coward” and expressed a deep anger over what he described as a heinous and not provoked act. He stressed the urgent need for regional cooperation between the Southeast Governor, emphasizing that porous limits often provide escape routes for criminals who are trying to avoid justice.

Abia shared the borders with several states, including Enugu, Ebonyi, IMO, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Anambra. According to the Governor of Otti, building a security framework together with neighbors is very important to maintain elements of violence.

He further vowed to support security agents with resources and support needed to ensure that the perpetrators were arrested quickly. “This government will not rest until justice is served. We will do everything needed to ensure that those who are responsible for this brutal crime are not punished,” the statement said.

The State Police Command Abia confirmed the incident in a statement released on Saturday. The order revealed that they received a difficult call on April 4, 2025, around 17:30, reported armed ambush targeting Chinese expatriates and their police escort on the way to the mining site.

Police spokesman Maureen Chinaka revealed that after the attack, security forces, including police and military, launched a coordinated rescue operation which led to the success of the recovery of four other Chinese expatriates and two police escorts. However, he confirmed that three people, including police officers, were killed during the incident.

Commissioner of State Police, Danladi Isa, has ordered full scale hunting for attackers, asking all units and agents of sisters to help track the suspects.
