Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, on Wednesday visited the Ogun State office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to express his condolences to staff members following the demise of the State’s Resident Electoral Commissioner, Barrister Niyi Ijalaye.
Governor Abiodun, addressing members of the staff, stressed that Barrister Ijalaye will be fondly remembered for his display of righteousness while he was alive.
The governor stressed that the Resident Election Commissioner lived a life of great impact and was an amiable, soft-spoken and humble gentleman, who always ensured that truth prevailed regardless of the circumstances.
He acknowledged the contribution of the REC in ensuring that democracy in the state saw the light of day.
Governor Abiodun described the exit of Barrister Ijalaye as extremely painful, stressing that his diligent and meticulous attitude in ensuring the survival of democracy in the state will be sorely missed.
“I want to pay tribute to this hardworking man because I remember all the events leading up to our election, all the events during our election, all the events after our election, and how calmly and firmly he held the committee to ensure that the committee took the right path and what was right,” he said.
In her speech, the Director of Finance and Accounts of the State Commission, Mrs. Rabiat Titilayo Akinola, urged the state government’s support for the family of the deceased and the commission.
