The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has adopted a consensus model for electing party leaders ahead of upcoming national congresses and conventions.

In a statement by the party’s national president, Nafi’u Bala Gombe, and BOT secretary, Rufus Ikanmi, the party said the move aims to strengthen unity, inclusion and internal cohesion within its ranks.

The party leadership announced the adoption of a consensual approach to the elections. Additionally, the party has opened its registers to welcome new members with immediate effect.

The BOT/NWC invites interested members of the public to join the party. The membership registration exercise will be open from Saturday 14 March 2026 to Wednesday 25 March 2026.

According to the statement: “New members are required to register at their respective neighborhood offices and collect their membership cards from the Continuous Member Registration Committee (CMRC). This exercise is strictly for new members only; existing members are not required to renew their membership at this time.

“The Board of Directors (BOT) and the National Working Committee (NWC) have decided to adopt consensus as the method for electing party leaders at all levels.

“This decision is taken in accordance with the party’s constitution and the Electoral Law 2026 (as amended), in support of its commitment to promoting unity, cohesion and inclusiveness within the party.

“The BOT/NWC believes that the consensual approach will foster greater cooperation, understanding and collective leadership, ultimately strengthening the party’s ability to achieve its goals and objectives.

PROGRAM OF ACTIVITIES:

Following the resolution, the party released the following calendar of congresses and the National Convention:

According to the calendar, neighborhood conferences will be held on March 19th and local authority conferences on March 24th. The state conferences will follow on March 28.

The party’s national convention is scheduled for April 3-5, 2026.
