ADC Congress, convention to be held as planned, former chairman, Nwosu, avoided INEC position

Former national chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Ralph Nwosu, has insisted that his party will go ahead with its planned national congress and convention despite the current crisis in the leadership and position of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Nwosu made these remarks during an interview on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Thursday, stressing that his party remains focused on its preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“We are taking necessary action both in court and with INEC, but we will not allow INEC to derail our program. After the release of the evil INEC, our chairman and all of us sat down and decided to proceed,” he said.

The ADC has been embroiled in a leadership dispute involving factions, a development that prompted INEC to withdraw recognition of certain party leaders pending resolution of the case in court.

However, Nwosu said the party had complied with legal requirements regarding its internal processes.

“We submitted our program to INEC according to the law, and they approved it – all the dates were agreed. Based on the election law, whether they attend or not is their own will, we have not violated anything,” he said.

He added that the party congress had already taken place and the national convention would proceed as scheduled.

“Congress has already started. Our national convention, scheduled for the 14th, will also go ahead, where we will validate everything we have done. We don’t want any opportunists in the ADC; we want mission-driven leaders who have the courage to challenge a bad system,” Nwosu said.

According to him, the party will continue to inform INEC about its activities, including plans for selecting candidates in the next elections.

“If they don’t accept it, we will publish it in the entire Nigerian media because they represent the people,” he added.
