The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), David Mark, has demanded the removal of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, and all national commissioners.
Mark made the call on Thursday in Abuja, at a well-attended global press conference, held to address growing concerns about the commission’s role in the country’s electoral process ahead of the 2027 elections.
The former Senate President’s statement followed INEC’s decision to remove the leadership of his party.
He stressed that INEC’s move had increased political tensions and raised new questions about the independence of the commission.
INEC earlier on Thursday suspended recognition of ADC leadership following the Court of Appeal ruling and ongoing litigation over the party’s leadership structure.

Mark further stated that the commission had lost public trust and was no longer capable of holding credible elections in the country.
“We demand the immediate resignation or dismissal of INEC Chairman Prof Amupitan and all national commissioners.
“We no longer have confidence in them. We believe they are incapable of holding credible elections.
“Despite their neutral stance, their actions clearly confirm that they have become highly partisan in both behavior and decision-making.
“By its actions, INEC has left no one in doubt that it is complicit in undermining Nigeria’s democracy and can no longer be trusted,” he said.
Mark emphasized that the party would continue with the planned national convention.
He stressed that INEC’s presence was not mandatory once valid notice had been given.
