Adelabu alleges death threats over electricity sector reforms

Power Minister Adebayo Adelabu said on Monday that he had received many calls from unknown persons opposing ongoing reforms in the sector.

Adelabu, a former governorship candidate in Oyo State, however, vowed that he would not be intimidated or bullied by those opposed to progress in the sector.

The minister, who appeared on Fresh FM’s “Political Circuit” program, said all challenges in the electricity sector can be overcome.

He also pointed the finger at gangs in the sector, accusing them of involvement in recent sabotage of transmission substations and power lines across the country.

The minister said: “I received threatening calls. I am the 49th minister in this country. Previous ministers may have been intimidated and bullied in their work.

“It doesn’t take an ordinary person to blow up a power transmission substation with dynamite and knock down power lines.

“This is organized crime. This is gangs and cartels. We are all Nigerians. We are not going to run away from ourselves.”
