ADP wants the power to appoint the Chair of the Inec taken from the President

The Chairperson of the Democratic Party Advanced (ADP), Alhaji Yabagi Sani, demanded the transfer of power to appoint the Chairperson of the Independent National Election Commission (Inec) from the President.

In a chat with journalists in Abuja, the Chairman of the ADP also called for a review of the constitutional section that empowered the President to appoint the Population Election Commission (REC) and the Police Inspector General.

Sani said: “It’s not good for the president to appoint the Chairperson of Inec and all the important people in the commission.

“Once again, the most prominent security agent in a democratic government is the police.

“How does he appoint our IGP, excavation and others because they are people who protect people and play a fundamental role in the selection process?

“The National Assembly is aware that these are the main aspects that must be changed first if we want a field that plays the level for democracy to be strong in this country.”

Sani, who said Nigeria had to imitate countries like the United States and Mexico, said that in the climate, the police chief was usually elected rather than being appointed.

In the two years the government of the Tinubu Bola President, he added:
“My approach to the presidential assessment is to ask, as the head of someone’s family, how can you manage your home?

“From that perspective, I will say that Tinubu has done it very well, because we are still a country, experienced relative peace, not overseeing small battles and challenges from bandits, terrorists, and other criminal elements.

“But things are not completely good, because there are certain things that he should do or should do what he has not done.”
