The Pan-Yoruba socio-political-political group, Afenifere, has renewed its call to repair urgent Nigerian security framework, emphasizing the need for a more local and responsive approach to overcoming deeper security challenges in the country.
The call was carried out on Monday during the group of Caucus Group, which took place at the residence of his leader, Head of Reuben Fasoranti, in Akure, Ondo State.
In a communication issued after the meeting, Afenifere submitted an appeal to the federal government and security agencies to redesign the current security architecture to ensure operators can better understand, investigate, and overcome the roots that cause insecurity throughout Nigeria.
This group specifically requested national security advisers, Nuhu thousand, to work in close collaboration with the state governor, emphasizing the importance of shared responsibility in curbing violence and violations of the law nationally.
In a separate statement released in Ibadan by the group’s national publicity secretary, Jare Ajayi, Afenifere also urged the state government to cooperate fully with federal authority to ensure that the allocation of local governments was implemented and used correctly.

Afenifere stated alarm in a deteriorating security situation, especially in southwest. This group cited recent kidnapping incidents, bandits, and murder outside of law, not only in Yoruba-speaking countries such as Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo, and Ekiti, but also in other parts of the country including Kaduna, Plateau, Kogi, Benue, Edo, and Anambra.
Afenifere stated, “Given the main position that security occupies any life of people, we once again ask the Federal Government and security institutions to redesign security architecture in such a way that those who are responsible for security will be able to dig deeper about the causes and handle them firmly.
“This time, the Regional Government Council must be given a mandate and influence to establish agriculture in their respective regions. Agricultural input must be available for farmers at subsidized prices. In the same tone, food goods can be provided for people at subsidized rates.”
This group reiterated the old advocacy for the restructuring of the Nigerian federation, describing it as the most sustainable solution for political, economic and social dysfunction that disturbed the nation.
Furthermore, Afenifer urged the southwest governor to improve internal security by expanding and completing the Regional Amotekun Corps. This calls for more personnel recruitment, better training, improvement of welfare, and adequate supply of operational tools to effectively fight threats that arise in the region.
The statement also touched the need for greater transparency and accountability in local government administration. Residents at the grassroots level are encouraged to hold their leaders accountable for how public funds are managed and deployed.
Highlighting the important role of agriculture in food security and economic stability, Afenifere recommends that the Regional Government Council be empowered to establish community agriculture, with agricultural inputs available at subsidized prices. It also recommends the introduction of food subsidized programs to help ease the increase in living costs.
Repeating his commitment to national development, Afenifere urged the Tinubu Ball President to utilize his democratic values and federalist aspirations to implement true federalism, with the reason that such a step could eventually make Nigeria in the eternal path of peace and prosperity.
