African Games: Igali Reacts to Team Nigeria Women’s Dominance

On Sunday, Nigeria claimed 6 gold medals in wrestling as they pulled a clean sweep in all the categories.

Igali said the Ladies had been training all year round and this win was a part of the preparations for the Olympic qualifiers.

He also noted that the Athletes did not want to partake in this contest to focus on the ticket for the Paris 2024 Olympics, but he influenced the decision and the girls have made the nation proud.

“The girls have been almost training year round and you know, we have our Olympic qualifiers this week in Alexandria. So, it’s all part of those preparations. And they came in here very determined to make Nigeria proud,”

“Though they didn’t want to come, I had to make it compulsory because for all of them. Their preoccupation is the Olympic qualifiers in Alexandria.

“I really want to salute the doggedness of these girls. They are just fantastic. And I hope they will take the same form to the Olympic qualifiers so we can qualify all of them this week.”

“For the boys, I just wish them the best of luck. We have almost a brand new team. In fact, we don’t have anybody right now from even two years ago on the team.

“So I don’t know what to expect from them, but I’m sure in a few years they will get back. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for them.”
