Akingbemisilu, Obazuaye won gold during the Nigerian Eyes Doubles’ medal at ITTF World Para

Faith Obazuaye and Bolawa AkingBemisilu added two gold medals to the Nigerian calculation in the future ITTF world in Amman, Jordan.

Both athletes emerged as champions in the 9-10 daughter and male single events.

Abiola Adesope secured a silver medal in the 9th grade of men, while Isau Ogunkunle and Kadinde Lawal also claimed silver in their event.

Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games Bronze medal and former Commonwealth Games medalist, Kape Oputa, finished with a bronze medal in the 9th grade and a single single class 4-5 female event.

Akingbemisilu won over his compatriot, Ogunkunle, with a 3-2 victory to win the 4-5 male grade, while Obazuaye defeated Lawal 3-1 to win the 9-10 woman’s class.

In class 9 men, Adesope was defeated by Iurii Nozdrunov 3-2 in the final, settled for silver.

Agunbiade, who lost to Nozdrunov in the semifinals, took home a bronze medal. Oputa also won bronze after the 3-2 defeat of the Al Waeli Rusule from Iraq.

With a single event ending, Team Nigeria is now diverting focus to a double event, which aims for more medals, to get the best team ranking in the competition.

On the opening day, the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Bronze Medal Olufemi Alabi secured Nigeria’s first gold medal in the 10th grade.

The Nigerian team of eight members, consisting of five men and three women, was in Jordan to get ranking points in front of the African championship later this year.

Sponsored by the National Sports Commission (NSC), this is their first big competition this year and their first international sightseeing since Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

This team was trained by Nosiru Sule and Gbenga Olanipekun.
