Senate President Godswill Akpabio called on Nigerians to maintain their hope, stressing that the country is on a path to prosperity despite the current challenges.
Speaking at an Inter-denominational Church Service at the National Christian Center in Abuja to mark Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day, he acknowledged the hardships facing citizens but expressed optimism about the future under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu.
“As we celebrate this day, let us also acknowledge the challenges we face. Yes, the road ahead may be bumpy. Yes, there will be setbacks. But together, united in our faith and love for Nigeria, we will prevail,” Akpabio said.
He underlined that the journey towards a prosperous nation has only just begun, and he urged Nigerians to be patient and hopeful. “I urge each of you to be patient, hold on to hope and believe that change is not only possible but inevitable. Nigeria’s brightest days are ahead. “Together, with unwavering belief, we will build a nation that our children and grandchildren and future generations can be proud of,” he added.

Reflecting on Nigeria’s history of resilience, Akpabio said, “There is no doubt that the Nigerian nation is defined by resilience. From our initial struggle for independence to the challenges of modern governance, we continue to demonstrate our indomitable spirit.” He further noted, “When faced with adversity, we rise. When faced with challenges, we unite. Today, I thank God for the Nigerian spirit that has led us through tumultuous times, across the Red Sea and the Jordan River, over hills and mountains, and through every valley we encountered.”
He also encouraged Nigerians to celebrate the progress achieved so far, stressing that “every milestone we have overcome is a testament to our collective will, strength and determination as Nigerians.” Akpabio emphasized that the country is engaged in the “New Hope Project” which aims to rejuvenate the economy, empower communities and encourage the most vulnerable groups.
Echoing Akpabio’s sentiments, George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, expressed confidence in Nigeria’s prosperous future, stating, “There is still hope. I also have a dream, that this country under Asiwaju will become the most blessed, most successful and prosperous country in Africa and the world.”
Earlier in the service, Archbishop Michael Akinwale of the Nigerian Methodist Church urged citizens to be patient, expressing confidence that the country would regain its former glory.
