Senator deferred by Natasha Akpoti-Uuduaghan, who represented the Kogi Central Senatorial District, has reiterated his commitment to visit the constituency for the Sallah celebration, reject speculation about the cancellation.
In a statement issued by his media team on Tuesday morning, the senator urged his supporters to ignore the rumors circulating, convincing them that the visit remained according to schedule.
“We are happy to confirm that Sallah Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uuduaghan’s visit to the Kogi Center Senatorial District will be continued according to plan. Although rumors are circulating online, there has been no official announcement from our office regarding the cancellation of this visit,” the statement said.
Repeating his dedication to his constituents, Akpoti-Uuduaghan stressed the importance of his presence during the celebration, encouraging supporters to get out in large quantities.
The senator team convinced the public that all necessary arrangements have been made to ensure a successful and peaceful event, inviting all members of the community to join the celebration.
Confirmation came only a few hours after the Kogi state government imposed a ban on demonstrations and public meetings, citing security issues. The decision followed the violent incident that caused the loss of two lives in Kasemiya, Katubo, and Umozu Ette, all in the Kogi Regional Government in Kogi West.
In a statement issued on Monday, the state information commissioner, Kingsley Fanwo, warned that the intelligence report suggested a plan to hold a demonstration of violence with the guise of political and religious movements at Kogi Central.
“This step is intended to prevent all forms of security violations that might interfere with the stability of the country,” said Fanwo.
Apart from this restriction, Senator Akpoti-Uuduaghan insisted on political involvement with his people, a step that might attract many people, even when he emphasized that his visit was an important part of his legislative duties for his constituents.
The Senator is currently undergoing a six -month suspension from the Senate after the penalty slammed him, following his accusations about sexual violence against the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio.
