Akpoti-Uduaghan challenged Akpabio’s petition, urged IGP to investigate alleged threats to his life

The suspended senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uuduaghan, has asked the Police Inspector General, Kayode Egbetokun, to dismiss the petition proposed by the President of the Senate Godswill Akpabio who accused him of pollution and criminal incitement.

Conversely, the senator urged the police chief to open an Akpabio investigation for what he described as a credible threat to his life.

The Senate President recently submitted a petition to the police, accused that Akpoti-Uduaghan was mistakenly accusing him of planning his murder he was very refused, calling them “heinous lies” which was intended to tarnish his reputation and move public riots.

Responding to his legal counsel, Victor Giwa, on Saturday, Akpoti-Uduaghan described the Akpabio petition as a strategic transfer aimed at undergoing an impartial investigation against reported threats.

“Our client stated that the president of the senate must first surrender himself to a thorough investigation by the security institution before the petition is considered,” the statement said.

Furthermore Giwa accused that Akpabio was a “main suspect” in a case involving threats to the life of the senator, noting that the details of his safety were drawn under what he called “suspicious and illegal circumstances” allegedly on the instructions of the president of the senate.

“The petition by Akpabio is premature and designed to prevent the results of real investigations,” Giwa said. “Only after the full investigation has cleaned the president of the senate that every refinement of anxiety or defamation can be entertained.”

The statement asked the Police Inspector General to ignore the petition Akpabio, which was described as “transfer and prejudice.”

The essence of this problem lies the deeper cracks between two prominent political figures, underline the increasingly controversial atmosphere in the upper room of the national assembly. While Akpabio tried to maintain his name, Akpoti-Uduaghan insisted that his safety was at stake and that the truth should not be buried under the game of political power.

At the time of the press, both the Nigerian Presidential Office and the Nigerian police did not issue an official response to the senator’s appeal.
