●Talk about his responsibility as leader of the Zone

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, on Wednesday led delegates from the North Central geopolitical zone in affirming President Bola Tinubu as the sole candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 presidential election.

Senator Akume made the statement in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, during the APC North Central Zonal Congress where party leaders and delegates gathered to deliberate on the future of the party in the region.

The motion to adopt the President as the sole presidential candidate of the APC was moved by Akume and seconded by the Nasarawa State Governor, Eng. Abdullahi Sule, with a thunderous affirmation from all the delegates.

All the governors of the North Central zone, as well as most of the former governors and their deputies, members of the National and State Assembly, ministers and a number of other former and current political office holders graced the momentous event.

Addressing Congress, Akume said the approval was a reflection of the confidence reposed in Tinubu’s leadership and the administration’s continued efforts to reposition the country.

He noted that as the North Central leader of the party, he has the responsibility to ensure unity and strategic alignment among the party’s stakeholders in the region.

He stressed that the zone remains committed to the ideals of the APC and will continue to support policies and programs aimed at economic recovery, infrastructure development and national cohesion.

Akume also called on party members across the zone to close ranks and work collectively to consolidate the party’s gains ahead of the next general elections.

He stressed that an early consensus on Tinubu’s candidacy would provide the APC with a strategic advantage and allow the party to focus on governance and results.

He also assured that the zone will give the president the highest votes among the six geopolitical zones of the country in the presidential elections.

His words: “The North Central has done so much for this country to preserve the unity of the country. Nigerians are proud of you. And we must be proud of ourselves. Our governors and ministers are performing exceptionally.”

“I am always honored by our governors every time I meet them. With the politicians I have seen here, the North Center will have the highest number of votes among the six geopolitical zones.”

The approval was met with applause and affirmations from delegates, many of whom described it as a necessary step to maintain stability within the party and ensure continuity in leadership.
