House of the Akwa Ibom Assembly has rejected a report on the investigation planned by former Udom Governor Emmanuel.
Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Kufreabasi Edidem, made clarification in a statement issued on Tuesday at UYO.
The report emerged on Monday that the assembly had decided to investigate Emmanuel for the alleged mismanagement of state funds.
However, the deputy chairman said the DPR had not formed any committee to investigate the former governor.
Edidem said: “The attention of the leadership and members of the Akwa Ibom Assembly had been interested in a report in the publication of newspapers Monday, August 11, that the Governor of the Past was directly, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, faced an investigation by the Parliament.
“The DPR wants to expressly declare that there is no scintil truth in publication, in content and in intention, and provide clarification to help provide information to the public as follows:
“That the publication is speculative, has no factual basis, and does not reflect the official position or resolution of the Parliament.”
He showed that a member representing the state constituents of MKPAT Enin, Mr. Uwem IMOH-ITH, during the August 7 plenary raised an important public issue that urged that some employees from coconut plantations have not been paid for seven months.
He revealed that the Ad-Hoc Committee had been formed to investigate the problem and report back within one month.
“The committee has not submitted its report to the DPR to be considered,” added the deputy chairman.

He urged newspapers and other media organizations to always verify their facts from official legislative sources before publication.
“Inaccurate and sensational reporting is not only misleading the public but also damages the credibility of democratic institutions.
“Professional media must know where to draw a line between facts and sensationalism.
“Journalism is a noble profession with its strong ethical bent,” said Edidem.
