The Akwa Ibom State Sports Commissioner, Elder Paul Bassey, has announced the immediate dissolution of the management teams of the four state football clubs after the conclusion of the 2024/25 season of the Nigeria football league.
The affected clubs are Akwa United FC, Dakkada FC, Ibom Angels FC and Ibom Youth FC, all totally financed by the Akwa Ibom Government.

Elder Bassey made the announcement during a meeting held in UYO with representatives of the four clubs.
He addressed the presidents and secretaries of each club to present their delivery notes to the Ministry of Sports in two weeks.
According to the commissioner, the decision is in line with the broader plan of the State to reposition sports and raise the levels of performance on all sports fronts, aligned with the Arise Agenda of the Governor Umo Eno.
“Soon a new management structure will be announced to begin preparations for the next football season,” said Bassey, adding that the dissolution marks the beginning of a renewed vision for sports excellence in the state.
He expressed his appreciation for outgoing officials for their service and contributions to the growth of football in the state, wishing them the best in their future efforts.
In his reaction, the president of the Akwa Ibom Football Association, Mr. Samuel Umoh, acknowledged that the football season has just concluded was a challenge for the four teams. He applauded the decision of the commissioner as a timely movement to reposition clubs for future success.
