A member of a notorious kidnapping syndicate, Usmanu Garba, has been arrested while on his way to spend his share of N1.6 million ransom in Yobe State. The command spokesperson, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, who made the announcement in a statement, said the gang kidnapped a resident of Babaram Muktum, a Fulani settlement in Gujba LGA and collected a ransom of N1.6 million from him.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Garba Ahmed, has directed personnel to intensify efforts to hunt down and arrest criminal elements in their enclaves as the command recorded another significant success in busting a kidnapping ring,” the statement read. “On July 5, 2024, at about 1:00 p.m., detectives from the State Intelligence Department (SID) arrested Usmanu Garba, 30, of Katarko village, Gujba LGA, while he was on his way to spend his share of the proceeds of a kidnapping operation.
“The suspect is a member of a gang that specializes in armed robberies, kidnappings and cattle rustling in Gujba and nearby towns. “The gang was responsible for the recent kidnapping that took place in Babaram Muktum, a Fulani settlement in Gujba LGA, where the gang kidnapped a resident and collected a ransom of N1.6 million. “They also robbed the victim’s father of his Techno phone before releasing the victim. Other members of the syndicate are on the run and the command is intensifying efforts to arrest them.
The suspect has also confessed to the crime and is cooperating with investigators as the investigation deepens. “The Commissioner of Police urges members of the public to be vigilant and report suspicious movements, activities and events. He also advises the public to be discreet with their personal affairs and not to disclose or display earnings in public. “The command ensures that no crime will go unpunished if reported. Always report any suspicious activity to the nearest authorities.”
