Saturday’s confrontation at the Godswill Akpabio stadium arrives five months and two weeks after the Super Eagles defeated Amavubi 2-0 in the native field of the latter in Kigali in a meeting of day 5.
It also arrives nine months and two weeks after an inspired Amavubi arrived from behind to defeat the 2-1 Super Eagles in a qualification match on the last day of AFCon of 2025 at the same Godswill Akpabio stadium.
Unfortunately for Amavubi, victory did not beat them the qualification, since Benin Republic took the group’s second ticket behind Nigeria, after drawing with Libya in Tripoli.
While the Amavubi have a date with Zimbabwe at the bottom on the 8th, the Super Eagles must fly to Bloemfontein to face the leaders of the South Africa group.
