The global human rights organization, The Amnesty International, has regretted the wave of attacks by terrorists and non-state actors in Nigeria which has resulted in the murder of 71 Nigerians and the kidnapping of 50 others in just one week.
The corpse that raised alarm in a statement on Monday, said a new surge in a deadly attack, especially in all parts of Northern Nigeria, had shown that the current government did not prioritize the safety of the Nigerians.
In that statement, Amnesty International highlighted what was described as an escalation of violence that was disturbing in rural communities, detailed how 52 people were killed in the highlands, 13 in Kebbi, and six in Katsina, all in the past week.
The Human Rights Agency also detailed how more than 50 people were kidnapped in a separate attack in Katsina by armed bandits.
“More than a week, at least 71 people have been killed: 52 on Plateau, 13 in Kebbi and 6 people in Katsina,” said the body.
“Also in Katsina, armed people have kidnapped more than 50 people. Armed people who went on a rampage of bloodshed further increased deadly attacks in rural areas where hundreds of people were displaced.”
The global organization warns that the ongoing violence creates a towering humanitarian disaster, because the entire community is revoked and a destroyed livelihood.
Furthermore, criticizing the Nigerian government’s response to the crisis, said that the claim was repeated about the distribution of troops and military intervention previously failed to end the murder or bring the perpetrators to the court.
“Claims repeated the spread of troops to areas affected by the Nigerian government have not stopped the murder. Military intervention previously also failed to end the murder or bring the actual perpetrators to court in a just trial.
“In the state of the benue and the highlands, the villagers always lamented that they now feel helpless and restless, because they continue to strengthen themselves for the next attack. The deadly attack on rural communities makes the life of hell for the villagers.
“The ongoing attack on rural communities raises the risk of humanitarian disasters. The attack has caused a large -magnitude and people who are not affected by their livelihoods. The murder must end now,” the statement emphasized.
However, human rights organizations call for urgent and concrete actions to stop violence and protect the affected population, emphasizing the need for justice, accountability, and human support.
