The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old woman, Somtochukwu Nwafor, for a terrible murder and cutting a pregnant nurse whose dead body was found in a subjected hole in Ogbunike, Oyi’s regional government in the state.
Public relations officer from the command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, who made this known in a statement on Wednesday, said the suspect was arrested on Friday, July 25, with the help of community members after the discovery of the nurse body.
In a statement posted on the Command’s Facebook page, Ikenga said the suspect, during the interrogation, claimed that he and the main suspects were identified as Chiemerie Obika Elobisi, who were currently in the escape, selling the body parts of the deceased to the original doctor for ritual purposes.
The police spokesman said the initial investigation revealed that the late nurse was captivated to the residence of the suspect under the pretext of providing medical treatment, only to be killed brutally.
“The Anambra State Police Command used the assistance of Umueri Village, members of the Ogbunike community on July 25, 2025 arrested a female suspect, Somtochukwu Nwafor, 24 years old,” said the police statement.
“This arrest was related to the terrible murder of a pregnant nurse, whose body which was only mutilated was found in a soaking hole in Ogbunike, the territory of the Oyi regional government in the State of Anambra.
“During the interrogation, the suspect claimed to be the main suspect’s girlfriend, a Chiemerie Obika Elobisi, from the same village, but now in general.
“He stated that he was called by the suspect to clean blood stains after the victim was killed. He further revealed how they sold body parts to various evil original doctors in the area.
“Also, preliminary information shows that the victim, a trained nurse was captivated by the killer to his house with a guise of looking for medicine.
“Given the information from the suspect, the operators of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) on early July 29, 2025, destroyed a temple from an identified native doctor, the chibunna ofornwatarate nwafor from the village of Itima Amawa, Ogbunike and restoring the alleged part of the human body, hidden in the cellophane).
“However, the order has launched the hunting for the main suspects, along with the alleged recipient and collaborator.
“Police Commissioner, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has condemned the heinous act, describing it as inhumane, criminal, and insulting public morality and the sanctity of life.
“CP encourages anyone with useful information to assist the police in an ongoing investigation to progress and ensure that the informant’s identity will be adequately protected,” Ikenga wrote.
