The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 23 -year -old woman, Nmesoma Josephine Nwoye, and her 24 -year -old lover, Chibuike Ogbu, for allegedly falsifying the kidnapping and collecting N1.2 million ransom from her family.
The Commissioner of the State Police, Ikioye Orutugu, who revealed this in a statement on Saturday issued through the Commander of the Command Commander, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the two suspects were arrested by police operators attached to the fast response team, Awuzu, after completing the fake kidnapping incident.
According to the statement, the suspects were arrested after the operation led by intelligence found that the victim who was supposed to conspire with his girlfriend to hold his own abduction.
“Further information revealed that the suspects demanded ₦ 15 million ransoms, and after negotiations, ₦ 3 million were transferred to the victim’s account.

“The operators also restored the number of ₦ 1.2 million to be part of the ransom previously paid by the girl’s family members,” said part of the statement.
CP Orutugu described the incident as a reflection of increasing moral decay in society, where young people increasingly turn to crime for selfish benefits.
He urged parents, guardians and religious leaders to intensify efforts in instilling discipline, integrity, and good values in their children and wards, while warning young people not to be involved in self-destructive efforts, emphasizing that the long sleeve of the law will always pursue criminals, no matter how no matter what is cleverly disguised as their scheme.
