Nigeria’s senior national team will be without two key players as they begin their AFCON 2025 qualifying campaign with matches against Benin Republic and Rwanda respectively, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
They host Benin Republic on September 7 before travelling to Rwanda three days later for their second match in the quest to reach next year’s AFCON, after finishing as runners-up earlier this year in Ivory Coast.
Nigeria were beaten 2-1 by the hosts in the final in February, and ahead of the upcoming matches, two players who were part of the team that lost the final will not be available for new coach Janne Andersson.
Fresh from the news that Terem Moffi has suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury that will keep him out for the rest of the season, full-back Ola Aina has left Nottingham Forest’s game through injury on his Premier League debut against Bournemouth.
Aina was substituted due to a suspected calf injury, which is likely to keep him out for the next three weeks according to sources associated with the club.
