APC accuses 3 KPU staff of plotting to compromise Edo elections

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State has accused three staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of plotting to compromise Saturday’s governorship election in the state.

In a letter addressed to the Chairman of the Election Commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, the party accused the relevant officials of recruiting a number of people from outside the state to work for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the election.

The listed staff are HOD Operations, Inoyengieni Frank Ogbise, Head of ICT, Lawrence Akan, and Electoral Officer for Akoko Edo local government area of ​​the state, Blessing Suleman.

The letter was provided to reporters on Wednesday.

The letter reads: “Our concerns and objections are addressed to three (3) of your Commission Staff: 1. HOD OF EDO STATE OPERATIONS: MR. INOYENGIENI FRANK 0GBISE.

“The above officer has recruited some staff of your commission from outside Edo State to work in the interest of the PDP in the September 21, 2024 Governorship election in Edo State.

“It is also known that the HOD Operation involved the placement of a number of KPU staff at your head office in a hotel owned by the Director General of PDP Mass Organizations.

“We urge you to ensure that all KPU staff currently residing in the ETERNO HOTEL owned by the Director General of the PDP Election Winning Agency, Yth. MATTHEW IDUORIYEMKEWEN are relocated to ensure that the election runs smoothly.

“It is to be noted that MR INOYENGIENI OGBISE and the Deputy Director of lCT of your Commission in Edo State was posted to the Edo State Government House on September 17, 2024.

“We also have credible information that shortly before this period, the said HOD Operations, moved his family to Canada, as he was planning to travel abroad immediately after the election.

“EDO STATE ICT CHIEF: Mr. LAWRENCE WILL We have credible information that the ICT chief of your Commission in Edo acted to compromise the election in Edo State.

“It was recorded that the Head of ICT was seen giving some money to his immediate staff to be distributed, stating that the money was from PDP. It was also recorded that he took some of your Commission’s staff to ETERNO HOTEL, which is owned by Mr. MATTHEW IDUORIYEMKEWEN, who is the Director General of the PDP organization.

“ELECTION OFFICER, AKOKO EDO LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA, EDO STATE: BLESSING SULEIMAN It is noteworthy that the Electoral Officer, BLESSING SULEIMAN is stationed at the Government House. He was also seen with the Chairman of Akoko-Edo Local Government Area unit, who is a member of the PDP.

“It was also discovered that he gave the PVC belonging to the registered voters to the Chairman of Akoko-Edo Local Government, thereby depriving the registered voters of the opportunity to collect their Voter Cards.

“In light of the foregoing, we urge you to exercise your authority to intervene, as our party has lost confidence in the ability of this staff to conduct a free and fair election in Edo State on behalf of your commission.”
