A leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, on Sunday, warned the party’s Rivers State chapter against making baseless claims and defaming former Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi.
Eze’s warning came after the party’s interim committee chairman, Chief Tony Okocha, alleged that Amaechi planned to use the party against President Tinubu in 2027.
Eze, a close ally of Amaechi, described Okocha’s claims as a “smear campaign aimed at tarnishing Amaechi’s reputation.
He stressed that Amaechi had never fought for power and had no interest in fighting Tinubu.
Eze also referred to a recent court ruling that reinstated the democratically elected Rivers APC executive committee, led by Chief Emeka Beke, which Okocha claimed was part of Amaechi’s plan to control the party. Eze argued that the court ruling was clear and comprehensive, leaving no room for appeal.

The APC chief reminded Okocha that Amaechi was appointed as the South-South leader of the party at its formation, with Tinubu as the national leader, and that this leadership structure remains unchanged. Eze asked Okocha to focus on building the party rather than getting involved in unnecessary infighting.
“The court held that Ganduje’s appointment of Okocha’s agents and collaborators was ultra vires and constituted a gross violation of the party’s Constitution.
“Apart from being ultra vires the APC Constitution, the High Court is also clear in its stand on the unlawful appointment of an emergency committee to replace the democratically elected Executive Committee of the State Branch on baseless allegations of anti-party conduct in the 2023 elections; as it clearly violates the right of the reinstated party officials to a fair hearing as guaranteed by the Nigerian Constitution and therefore cannot be sustained. This judgment is not one that can be overturned on appeal,” he said.
The development highlights the ongoing internal strife within the Rivers APC, with factions loyal to Amaechi and Okocha vying for control. The party’s national leadership has yet to comment on the matter.
