APC does not build a country of one party, said SEC nationally in the midst of a wave of opposition buyers

In the midst of increasing concerns over Nigerian political direction, the National Secretary of the Congress of All Progressive (APC), Senator Ajibola Basiru, on Wednesday, strongly rejected the claim that the ruling party pushed the country towards a one -party system.

Speaking of today’s politics, the current business program on television channels, Basiru discusses the criticism that developed after the high profile defeat of the Democratic Party (PDP) to APC, including those from the Governor of the State Delta Sheriff Oborevwori, his representative Monday onyeme, and former Governor IFEYANG OKWAWA.

Basiru is firm in his response to the question of whether APC systematically weakens the strength of opposition through intimidation that is supported by the state.

“How can we turn Nigeria into a state one party?” He asked. “This country is not our manufacture. The policy structure is not our design. The real problem is that the opposition does not respond to its responsibilities seriously.”

Instead of accepting mistakes, Basiru shifted focusing on what he described as a sluggish party -the opposition of Nigeria. He challenged the media and the public to examine the operational strengths of other political parties, referring to APC’s ongoing efforts to build the presence of strong grassroots in Nigeria.

“Visit other party headquarters tomorrow and see whether there are any activities. Meanwhile, we invest in functional and efficient structures at every level of ward to local governments and states,” he said.

Drawing from the historical context, Basiru reminded the Nigerians that APC, who had been an opposition party itself, was not destroyed under pressure. He remembered how the Soccer President Ahmed Tinubu, who was then an opposition governor alone in the southwest after the 2003 election, still stoined even though there were many political investigations and harassment.

“When we were in opposition, we remained on the track,” Basiru said. “Tinubu was tried by the Code of Ethics Court, and apart from all that, he did not leave the party. We continued to grow.”

He also responded to the accusation that APC used federal power to force opposition members to join his staff. Quoting the famous words Amรญlcar Cabral -“Say not a lie, the claim is not easy to win” -Basiru accused the parties of the opposition to blame external forces rather than facing their own internal weaknesses.

“Fifteen members of the parliament from workers, PDP, NNPP, and SDP have joined APC in recent months. Some are new members of the National Assembly without accusations of corruption against them. So where is the harassment?” He asked.

Referring to the new defender from the Delta State’s political heavyweight, Basiru said its development was a sign of the developing APC attraction and the influence of fading opposition in the main areas.

“In Agbor two weeks ago, I watched the Delta Unity group, led by NDDC chairman and joined the daughter of former Governor James Ibori, officially allying with APC,” he said. “Of course that causes a commotion. Delta is very important for the political plan of opposition, and they know we get land.”

Basiru praised the leadership of President Tinubu and the progressive governor forum for the momentum of this new party, equating APC expansion efforts with grassroots evangelism.

“We are out there like Jehovah’s Witnesses, forgive the comparison, knock on the door and share APC’s vision in every corner of Nigeria,” he said.

When asked whether the defector was under the form of coercion to join the ruling party, Basiru rejected the idea, insisting, “President Tinubu will not force anyone. He is a Democrat in the heart.”

While the defector has turned on the debate again about political plurality in Nigeria, the APC National Secretary emphasized that what the country witnessed was not authoritarianism but the consequences of unorganized opposition and parties that refused to be complacent.
