APC Mocks Ambition of President Makinde, predicts defeat for PDP in 2027

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state of Oyo has swiped Governor Seyi Makinde, describing his potential offer for the presidency in 2027 as a mistake in political calculations that could spell disasters for the Democratic Party (PDP).

The party’s reaction occurred in the appearance of Governor Makinde on Channels Television on Tuesday, where he expressed his trust in his ability to lead Nigeria if given the opportunity.

“I do not hesitate that I have the capacity to occupy the highest position in this land, and I have what is needed,” Makinde said during the interview. “But is that what I want to do now? Is that what Nigerians ask? What will my party say? I don’t know. We still have a long time to leave.”

While the governor tried to reduce expectations by noting that the decision would depend on the consensus of a broader party and public sentiment, his comments triggered criticism directly from the opposition in his original state.

Talk with Punch on WednesdaySecretary of APC Publicity State Oyo, Mr. Olawale Shadee, mocking the idea of โ€‹โ€‹Makinde’s nomination, calling it an indication of the internal chaos of PDP.

“It is unfortunate that the same PDP, who governs our beloved country for 16 years, has now become a comedy tool in the hands of several types of people,” Shadee said. “We encourage him to go out and secure the PDP presidential ticket for the next general election.”

Shadee argues that Makinde’s nomination will only accelerate the decline in the opposition party, showing that it will be similar to preparing PDP for “final burial.”

“We do not expect PDP to die, but if they choose to bury the umbrella party by putting their destiny in the hands of people like Governor Seyi Makinde, good luck for them,” he added.
