APC New Media Directorate Lauds IGP’s Neutrality, Welcomes ESN Ban, Lauds Deployment of 35,000 Officers for Edo Elections

The APC New Media Directorate expresses its deepest appreciation to the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, for his unwavering commitment to ensuring neutrality and fairness in the forthcoming Edo elections. We are particularly encouraged by his decisive action in banning the Edo State Security Network (ESN), a notorious tool employed by Governor Godwin Obaseki to intimidate and terrorize voters.

Governor Obaseki’s recruitment of over 11,000 people into this agency was a blatant attempt to create chaos before, during and after the elections. As a party, we raised the alarm in an earlier open letter to the IGP, calling for urgent intervention. Today, we are immensely pleased that the IGP has taken the necessary measures to protect the integrity of the electoral process and safeguard the lives of Edo citizens.

The IGP’s decision to deploy 35,000 officers across Edo State for the elections further underscores his dedication to maintaining law and order. This deployment is a reassuring measure that will ensure citizens can turn out en masse to vote without fear of harassment or violence. We believe this robust security presence will deter any attempt by malign elements to disrupt the electoral process.

This courageous and commendable action shows that the Nigeria Police Force remains the ultimate guardian of democracy, standing firm in the face of intimidation and political manipulation. IGP Egbetokun has not only set a gold standard for law enforcement nationwide, but has also strengthened public confidence in the impartiality of the police.

The APC New Media Leadership is confident that under the watchful eye of the IGP, the Edo people will be free to vote according to their conscience, ensuring a brighter future for our State.
