APC rebukes Ndume over ‘bizarre’ claims about Tinubu

The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Saturday described as bizarre a claim made by the Senate President, Ali Ndume, about President Bola Tinubu.

In a programme on Arise TV on Friday, Ndume alleged that the president had been “locked up” by his aides in State House.

He argued that former President Muhammadu Buhari was more accessible than Nigeria’s current leader.

The lawmaker stressed that President Tinubu is unaware of the challenges the country is currently facing.

However, Ndume noted that financial autonomy for local councils was Tinubu’s biggest achievement since he took office in May 2023.

But in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the party warned Ndume that his inability to access President Tinubu did not justify the bizarre claim that he had been locked up.

Morka said: “The latest media outburst by the senator representing Borno South, and the 10th Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, claiming that President Tinubu has been locked up and is oblivious to the existential challenges in the country is both arrogant and unnecessary.

“As a Senator, Ndume has a platform in the National Assembly to raise and debate issues that he believes are of national interest.

“He also has access to the entire machinery of the Federal Government.”

The APC spokesman challenged Ndume to explain how he used the access to find solutions to the concerns he raised.

Morka accused the senator of being frustrated at not being able to meet the President.

“But this does not justify or justify his absurd assertion that the President has been in some way locked up or shielded from the realities of conditions in this country.

“Ndume’s careless comments show an excessive sense of entitlement to meet the President on his own accord. The President is busy doing the work that is the responsibility of the Nigerian people.

“He is the head of government, in which there are many important parts equipped with the power to process and handle various social, economic, political, or security challenges from simple to complex.

“The President’s time must be used wisely to address important state issues,” he added.
