Armed people on Sunday kidnapped the Parish Priest of the Catholic Church of the Holy Family in Izombe, the state of IMO, Rev. Fr. John Ubaechu.
The Catholic Diocese of Catholic Outrudes who confirmed the incident in a statement signed by his Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Patrick Mbarah, on Monday, said the victim was kidnapped along Jalan Ejemekwuru in the area of the Oguta Regional Government in the state.
Ubaechu, according to the statement, was on the way to the annual retreat for the priests in Otower when he was visited by criminals and was taken to an unknown destination.
The statement reads: “Notification of kidnapping and calling for prayer. I was directed to tell you that one of our priests, Rev. Fr. John Ubaechu, was kidnapped on Sunday evening, March 23, 2025.

“Rev. Fr. John Ubaechu is a parish priest of the Catholic Church of the Kudus Izombe family. That sad event occurred along the Jalan Ejemekwuru in the Oguta Regional Government area. He was kidnapped on his journey to the annual retreat of the Imam.
“We invite all loyal Christ and all men and women intentions to really pray for the release of our priests who are fast and safe.
“We praise our brother, Rev. Fr. John Ubaechu to the strong mediation of the priest’s mother who was blessed by Virgin Maria, for his rapid liberation from the hands of his kidnappers.”
