Arsenal beat Everton and move closer to the Premier League title

Arsenal took a step closer to the Premier League title after securing a 2-0 win over Everton on Saturday.

Mikel Arteta’s side struggled to break down Everton’s defense for much of the match at the Emirates Stadium before finally making the breakthrough in the dying minutes.

Swedish striker Viktor Gyokeres opened the scoring in the 89th minute after Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford failed to deal with a cross from teenage midfielder Max Dowman. Piero Hincapié keeps the ball alive in the six yard area, allowing Gyökeres to tap into an empty net.

Dowman then sealed the win in stoppage time, running the length of the pitch and scoring into an unprotected goal after Everton pushed forward from a late corner.

The goal also saw the 16-year-old become the youngest goalscorer in Premier League history, as well as Arsenal’s youngest goalscorer.

The victory extended Arsenal’s winning run to four league games and moved them 10 points clear of second-placed Manchester City, who face West Ham United later on Saturday.

Arsenal, who last won the English title in 2004, are chasing their first title in 22 years.
