England legend Alan Shearer says Arsenal were unlucky not to beat Manchester City at the Etihad in Sunday’s big Premier League clash.
The Gunners were seconds away from securing a shock win against the league champions despite playing most of the game with 10 men following Leandro Trossard’s red card.
But substitute John Stone scored in the 98th minute to force a 2-2 draw.
Before the equaliser, Arsenal’s players frustrated City by limiting them to only shooting from outside the box.
Reacting to the result of the game, Shearer described the Arsenal players as a force to be reckoned with.
“Mikel Arteta must be devastated that Manchester City equalised so late on Sunday but, given the circumstances, he will still be delighted with the attitude and performance of his players,” he said.
‘It took a 98th-minute John Stones goal to deny Arsenal what would have been a huge win over the Premier League champions, who have not been beaten at home since November 2022.
‘Yet the way the Gunners fought back from a goal down to take the lead at the Etihad Stadium before the break, and then held on for almost the entire second half with 10 men, showed why they have become such a force – mentally, physically and tactically.
‘Their results and performances in three difficult away games in the last seven days have shown that, with a hard-fought win at Tottenham and a difficult draw against Atalanta before this game, which they were unlucky not to win.’
