As Aliyu is rewriting the story of Sokoto, Musa Nafada

Gov Ahmed Aliyu

Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto has embarked on an ambitious mission to rewrite the state governance narrative through a solid attention to the development of public infrastructures, among other sectors. The commitment of his administration towards infrastructure, in the context of his intelligent agenda at 9 points, not only revitalized the physical panorama of Sokoto, but also restored the hope among his people. This narrative has enormous meaning compared to the years between 2015 and 2023 For these people, despite its rich heritage, Sokoto’s state has faced significant development challenges and has experienced stagnations in the development of infrastructure, economic growth and social services, leaving it terrible need for transformation. Their prayers for the change was answered on May 29, 2023.

Two years later, people are enthusiastic about the fact that their investments in Dr. Ahmad Aliyu have repaidly repaid while the history of their state took a turning point for the good. For them, Dr. Aliyu is proof that God responds to prayers. Their reasons: the Governor’s infrastructure agenda is a central pillar of its governance strategy. He aimed to transform Sokoto into a modern and developed state. His efforts embrace the construction of roads, water supply, homes and rural development, with particular attention to dealing with long -standing challenges and improving the quality of life for residents.

For example, the most visible aspects of his infrastructure revolution are his aggressive program of construction of roads and rehabilitation that began as soon as he assumed the assignment in 2023. He had given the priority to face the deplorable state of the streets of Sokoto, in particular in state and rural areas. The complaints to the previous government on the poor state of the roads in the state have fallen unheeded. But Aliyu came, he opened his, he listened and went to work. His administration has addressed the problem of poor road infrastructure. In January 2024, Aliyu reported the construction and rehabilitation of 47 roads that connect the areas of Tudun Wada and Ungwar Rogo in the metropolis of Sokoto, at the cost of ₦ 8.99 billion. These roads have been designed to decongest state capital and expand development opportunities. Other important road projects include the construction of over 30 roads of asphalt as part of the urban renewal program of its government, which has given Sokoto a modern and aesthetically pleasant aspect. The installation of metal fences along the main roads has also reduced accidents, improving safety for motorists and pedestrians.

In addition to Sokoto Metropolis, the Aliyu administration has given priority to rural road connectivity. He is doing it with the mentality that most of the Sokoto population resides in rural areas. For him, therefore, the strategic rural roads, such as the Huchi-Gidan Kamba-Lucu junction, the streets of Wurni-Kwargaba-Sabongari and Goronyo-Kirere, must be rehabilitated to facilitate the movement of goods and services. And they were. In total, the Department of Rural Food Roads has built and rehabilitated about 101.65 kilometers of rural power supply roads throughout the state, including the local road Tangaza-Zabarmawar Yahaya and the 3.6-kilometer Dingyadi-Rumbuki road in the local area of Bodinga. These projects have improved access to markets, agricultural productivity increased and improved social interactions in rural communities.

The attention of the governor Aliyu also extends to the end of the perennial scarcity of water in Sokoto. State residents are subjected to acute shortcomings and entrusting on expensive, often non -safe water sources. But Aliyu is determined to solve the problem and make scarcity a memory of the past. So far his administration has made great strides in facing the challenge through a water project of 14.1 billion ₦ aimed at relaunching and completing six water patterns of the village. These were water patterns that began by the Aliyu Matatakarda Wamakko administration but ignored between 2015 and 2023

With the joy of the people, on June 23, 2025, Aliyu commissioned the old water scheme of the airport, which would guarantee about 3 million liters of water every day. This marks a significant milestone in the governor’s certain efforts to end the scarcity of water in the state. Speaking to the commissioning, the governor Aliyu described the project as “adequate promise”. In fact, it was! He said his administration inherited a water supply system collapsed in the state fueled by obsolete equipment and the absence of chemicals of the treatment. To deal with these problems, Aliyu said that his government has replaced obsolete equipment, has obtained alternative food sources for the board water state and has ensured a constant supply of clean water in Sokoto and its surroundings. Affinated residents, traditional sovereigns and high government officials who observed the commissioning ceremony, praised the result as careful relief.

An interesting thing about the water projects of the governor Aliyu is the fact that they are strategically found based on the population density and the urgency of need. This guarantees inclusion for urban and rural communities. Tamaje’s water schemes, Mana and Rugar Liman aim to extend access to drinking water to the underground areas. These efforts significantly reduced the cost of water for residents, who previously paid between ₦ 200 and ₦ 300 for Jerrycan. The progress on the development of Sokoto water patterns have also had an impact on public health, guaranteeing access to the treated water. This underlines the activism of the governor Aliyu in facing the challenges of the health of the Sokoto people. It is also in line to achieve the sustainable development objectives (SDG) that emphasize clean drinking water for people as a measure towards the eradication of certain challenges for the health of people, in particular diarrhea and entertaining diseases.

The time of the governor Aliyu in the state of Sokoto has so far been a turning point in the state governance trajectory. Through his ambitious infrastructure agenda, he has faced long -standing challenges in road connectivity, water supply, homes and rural development. These contributed to pushing the development doors towards the transformation of Sokoto into a model of progress and development. His intelligent 9 -point agenda, which is rooted in a profound commitment to the well -being of his people, has created over 180 impact projects in less than two years, earning a widespread consensus from residents, stakeholders and political allies.

Giving priority to urban and rural development, the governor Aliyu filled the gap between the state capital and his hinterland. This has contributed to promoting economic growth, social equity and security and has put Sokoto on the upper scale of the states of states in rapid development in Nigeria. We hope that the caliphate seat resumes its arrangement and the progressive trajectory, a niche created for it under the clock of the legendary Sardauna of Sokoto, the late Sir Ahmadu beautiful.
