A former presidential assistant, Reno Omokri, once again aroused debate among Nigerian politics openly reiterates his unrucky support for the President of Bola Tinubu.
He also vowed to face the former presidential candidate of the Labor Party, Peter Obi, every time the last time criticized the President.
“During Obi faced President Tinubu, I will handle it,” Omokri said in a statement on Tuesday.
Omokri, an old loyalist from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and former assistant former President of Goodluck Jonathan, also discussed what he described as an increase in the camp of the former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
“There is absolutely no reason for people around the Waziri Atiku Abubakar to fight with someone who only respects former vice president and never has a bad word to say about him openly or quietly,” he said.
While reaffirming his respect for Atiku, the former president’s aide clarified that his current political compass was in harmony with President Tinubu, who according to him implemented an old reform that was initially fought for by the Democratic Party (PDP).
He quoted the elimination of fuel subsidies, floating naira, power devolution, and introduction of student loan programs as proof of Tinubu’s performance.
“Yes, I support the Tinubu Bola President and by force because he gave the results we did in the Democratic Party of the people said we would be achieved,” Omokri said.
“Our goal is Nigeria’s progress.”
Former President’s assistant seems to place patriotism over party loyalty, echoing pragmatic philosophy:
“It doesn’t matter if the cat is black or white, as long as he catchs a mouse. And it doesn’t matter if the ruling party is APC or PDP, as long as he gives progress to the Nigerian state.”
In an effort to draw an ideological parallel, Omokri showed that both Tinubu and Atiku shared the roots in the social Democratic Party which now no longer existed in 1989, noted that their political philosophy was not far apart.
His latest comments, however, not only a reflection of policy alignment, but a direct warning to political opponents, especially Obi, which is increasingly popular among Nigerian youth and criticism that is consistent with the current government has made it remain in the public spotlight.
Apart from what he called the “bad” attack from the Atiku media team, Omokri stated that he had never betrayed the trust placed in it during the 2023 campaign and insisted he would not use the words of retaliation.
“Therefore, to attack me, when I have never been as much as one negative word said about the direct vibrant or coterie, the least good,” he said.
“However, I will not respond well. I chose to suffer from the insult that was thrown at me without retaliation. I only observed restraint because of respect, not because of coward.”
