“Assassination”: Akpabio Petions PGI on the accusations of Natasha

The president of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, presented a petition to the police general inspector, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, asking for an immediate investigation and the pursuit of the suspended senator Natasha Akpoti-Auduaghan on an alleged accusation of killers against him.

In the petition dated 3 April 2025, and also copied to the Prosecutor General of the Federation and the Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, San, Akpabio described the accusation as an “atrocious lie” and a calculated attempt to neglect his reputation, inciting incitement and endangered his life.

The controversy derives from the comments made by Akpoti-Auduaghan during a return event home in the state of Kogi on April 1st.

Akpabio has accused of instructing the former governor of the State of Kogi, Yahaya Bello, and the historical operator, the governor Usman Ododo, to assassinate her in the state of Kogi – presumably to create the impression that the attack comes from its voters.

Akpabio, in its petition, rejected the statements as politically motivated, unfounded and defamatory.

He said that the observations, widely spread on traditional and social media platforms, were made without any evidence to support and had the purpose of inciting political instability and manipulating public opinion.

“I categorically declare that this accusation is completely false, unfounded and politically motivated. It is a calculated act of blackmail and assassination of the character,” wrote the president of the Senate.

He underlined that the gravity of the accusation, combined within its reach and its public traction, requires rapid action by the police.

He asked for the accusation of Akpoti-Auduaghan pursuant to the laws on criminal defamation, incitement, false accusation and conduct that will probably cause a violation of peace.

Akpabio urged the police to treat the question with the urgency and gravity he deserves, insisting on the fact that the public characters must be held responsible for declarations capable of threatening peace and democratic stability.
