Italian Serie A side Atalanta are unhappy with the Nigerian senior national team squad over the use of star striker Ademola Lookman in their two AFCON 2025 qualifying games, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Lookman scored twice for Nigeria as they earned a 3-0 win over Benin Republic, a match he featured for the entire duration of and also played until the final three minutes of the 0-0 draw with Rwanda.

The fact that he played both games has not gone down well with his team, who are unhappy that he played so much time in both games despite suffering a shoulder injury that almost ruled him out of both matches.

He played both matches with a protective cast on his shoulder as he is not fully healed from a minor soreness in that part of his body, which caused him to miss their last match before returning to camp for the Super Eagles games.

The discontent among them is that there was a high probability that the 26-year-old would aggravate the injury if he was allowed to play longer, a situation that according to reports in Italy greatly angered the technical and medical staff of the Italian team.
