An African Democratic Congress (ADC) leader, Atiku Abubakar, has pledged to support whoever emerges as the party’s presidential candidate.
Atiku said he will support the party flag bearer even if the candidate turns out to be a youth.
In an interview with DW Hausa also dismissed concerns that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) could weaken the ADC, stressing that the party continues to attract members across the country.
He said the party will support and endorse whoever emerges as its presidential candidate, stressing that only a few aspirants are currently interested in the ticket.
He compared the situation to that of his former party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), where more than ten aspirants once vied for the presidential nomination.
Atiku added that many youths are now seeking elective positions within the ADC, from councilor to State Assembly and National Assembly.
He stressed that the party belongs to young people and women and that older members focus on creating opportunities for them.
When asked if he would support a youth presidential candidate if the ADC presented one, Atiku replied: “Yes, why not.”
He also said he is focused on ensuring a better future for younger generations, including his children and grandchildren.
