Former vice president and presidential candidate from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has strongly condemned the election behavior of the recently controlled local government in the river state, describing the exercise as “terrible absurdity and a buildup of the idea of ββelective democracy.”
The election, which was supervised by the Rivers’s State Independent Election Commission on Saturday, saw that the Congress of all Progressive (APC) secured victory in 20 of 23 regional government regions, while the Democratic Party, which currently controls the state government, only won three.
Reacting to a post on X on Sunday, Atiku blamed the administration of the Tinubu Bola President and accused APC in power manipulating the process.
“In an embarrassing and shambolic way in which the occupied government goes to conduct local government elections in the state of Rivers, it is clear that the ruling APC party does not make anyone doubt that it is ready to give the wind to the wind to achieve uncontrolled political benefits,” he said.
Former Vice President urged Nigeria and the global community to record what he described as a worrying trend.

He stated: “I asked the Nigerians, the international community, and the country’s partners to pay attention to this dangerous curve that the regime of the Tinubu Bola President took our beloved country.”
Atiku further appealed to the parties -the opposition party in the state to reject the election results, questioning the legitimacy of the process.
“I will also call for all opposition parties in the State of Rivers to reject the local government elections with the premise that the occupied government who did this exercise did not match our law, with no legitimacy to carry out important and sensitive assignments like that,” he said.
Concluding his statement, Atiku declared solidarity with the people of Rivers State, which he said had been rejected by their democratic rights.
“People in the State of Rivers are currently victims of political robbery to the strength of the strength that are determined to reverse their democratic rights at all costs,” he said.
