The midfielder of Spain and the two -time winner of the Ballon d’Ort Atana Bonmati are treated in the hospital for viral meningitis.
The Spanish football federation (RFEF) revealed this through a Saturday declaration.
Bonmati lost the friendly victory on Friday over Japan in the last heating match of the world champions before the beginning of Euro 2025 next week.
The RFEF said that Bonmati was “under course medical observation” after the tests led them to diagnosis of viral meningitis.
Bonmati, 27, did not train Thursday after feeling badly and later published a photo of him in a hospital bed to watch the 3-1 victory over Japan.
The coach of Spain Montse Tome said that after the game he was not sure if Bonmati would recover in time to play the European championship, ranging from 2 to 27 July in Switzerland.

“Aitana is an extremely important player, so we will wait for it as long as possible.”
Meningitis is an infection of the protective membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord.
