Bauchi PRP slams purchase of exotic SUVs for traditional rulers amid hunger and poverty

The Bauchi State chapter of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has expressed shock and anger over what it called the latest act of waste by the state governor, Senator Bala Mohammed.

The PRP in a statement issued by its state Secretary, Abdulazeez Haruna, observed that the governor had deemed it necessary to spend state funds lavishly to purchase exotic SUVs worth millions of naira for six first-class Emirs in the state while the majority of the population was struggling to survive in poverty and hunger.

According to the PRP, “This is an outrageous display of disregard and callousness towards the welfare of the people who elected him into office. At a time when many Bauchi State citizens are struggling to make ends meet, the governor has chosen to prioritise luxury and pleasure for the privileged few.”

The party added that, “The people of Bauchi State were yearning for relief from the economic hardship and hunger that had become the norm in the state, but instead, they were greeted with extravagant luxury and power.”

“We condemn this blatant waste of public funds and call on Governor Bala Mohammed to account for his actions. The people of Bauchi State deserve better than to be governed by someone who prioritizes the pleasure of the few at the expense of the many,” he said.

The PRP then demanded to know what prompted the governor to prioritize such spending over the pressing needs of his people.

The question is, “Are the people of Bauchi State expected to be satisfied with the fact that they are living in poverty and hunger while their leaders live in luxury?”

The PRP called on governors to turn their attention to addressing the critical needs of the people, including food security, health care, education, and job creation.

The PRP also demanded transparency in the management of public funds and called on the governor to be accountable on how the SUVs were acquired and at what cost, stressing that the people of Bauchi State have the right to know how their money is spent.

According to the PRP, “We will continue to hold our leaders accountable for their actions and decisions. We will not rest until the people of Bauchi State receive the fair and just treatment they deserve.”
