Former housemate of Big Brother Naija (BBN) reality TV show, ‘All Stars’ edition, Seyi Awolowo recalled how his father disowned him several times due to the complications of growing up in a polygamous family.
The reality TV star who shared her story while speaking to media personality Chude Jideonwo on the Just Chude podcast, said her father had three wives and kept detailed files on each of his children.
She said her father reduced her children’s identities to just their names on a list. She also recalled her father sending letters to his children to cut ties with them, leaving them feeling abandoned and alone.
“My father disowned me several times. Not just me, some of us, my father married more than one wife. He married three wives. We all have files. Until now, your name is only Seyi, period,” he said.

”We don’t even know the reason why he sometimes disowns us. He tells me, ‘Don’t worry, you are Awolowo’s grandson; you have money.’ I have really made a complete pitch and everything, a presentation about the money I need,” Seyi added.
The medical doctor and businessman, who has previously expressed interest in entering politics, acknowledged the difficulties of living in the shadow of his famous grandfather and voiced conflicting emotions about the Awolowo name.
He said, “I don’t want to have the name Awolowo, being in the shadow of my grandfather has made me see that even if I want something if I don’t have something that excites me, I won’t try. I think I know how to be comfortable in my comfort zone.”
“My father is dead, but my mother is very much alive. My father was a very strong figure in my life; his influence in my life made me think that I should not take life for granted and that I should work hard,” Seyi added.
