The office of the Prosecutor General of the Federation and the Minister of Justice has abdicated reasons that the Federal Government has withdrawn the criminal accusations against the CEO and the CEO (MD/CEO) of the Fidelity Bank Plc, the Ms Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe.

“As the chief law officer of the Federation, the AGF has the constitutional power of entering a Nolle Contiqui, interrupting a judicial proceeding in which it is deemed necessary to prevent judicial abortion.

“This decision followed a careful revision of the case that did not connect Dr. Onyeali-Ikpe to the accusation as it was neither the accounting manager nor the CEO of Fidelity Bank when the account used in the alleged fraud system was opened.

“The decision of the attorney general is guided by the principles of justice, equity and state of law and we have any confidence that this decision is in the best interest of justice and the public.

“This decision does not welcome Fidelity Bank with the accusations contained in the accusation which is still ongoing before the court, but rather a demonstration of the duty of the attorney general to ensure that justice is served.

“We urge the public to allow the legal process to follow its course and refrain from speculation or jump to conclusions.

“The AGF will ensure that the best interest of justice is served at any time and that all those who have found desired, at any time, face the entire weight of the law to serve as a deterrent for others.”
