Because I approved Tinubu, Omesso Shettimo – National Vice President

The national vice -president, North East, of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mustapha Salihu, clarified why his public approval of President Bola Tinubu did not include vice -president Kashim Shettimo.

The national vice president of the APC for the North East offered the reason during a television program of the channels: “Politics Toray”, Monday.

Remember that there was the chaos at the top of the north-east of the APC in Gombe, the capital of the State of Gombe, on Sunday for the failure of some participants to support Shettimo as a racing partner of Tinubu for the 2027 elections.

On Monday Salihu said “politics TODAY”: “In my complete speech, the last paragraph before approval, I praised Kashim Shettimo, recognizing him as our son and expressing that we are next to him as people from the North East.

“I also appreciated the National Security Councilor (Mallam Nuhu RIPADU) as our son, of whom we are proud and I recognized all the ministers and parastatal data given to the north-eastern indigenous people, thanking Asiwaju (Tinubu) for this, before asking for him as the only presidential candidate.

“In party policy, we have only one ticket in the primary phase: for the executive president, the president of the local government, the governors and the president.

“There is no provision in our Constitution that allows the approval of a joint ticket at that level.

“It is only after the primaries, when a candidate emerges, who chooses a racing partner.

“This choice remains the constitutional prerogative of the presidential candidate, even if consultations can occur”.

Salihu said that this logic informed because governors like never mala buni by YouBe State and Inuwa Yahaya of the State of Gombe have in the same way approved Tinubu without jointly supporting Shettimo, even while praising the vice -president as “our”.

To the question about the speculation of a rift between Tinubu and Shettimo, he said: “The administration of a party is not managed on social media, newspapers or on television.

“It is managed internally,” he said.

“These types of voices are inevitable in every administration.

“People will always try to suggest the friction between the principal and the vice.

“This is what some insecure politicians prospon.

“But if you are sure in yourself, you shouldn’t be disturbed by this noise.”

As for the fact that the omission of the name of Shettimo from the approval could create discontent in the north -est, Salihu did not agree.

He said: “Anyone who says that there is discontent is simply wrong.

“I’m in Yola.

“I committed myself with members of Taraba, Gombe, Bauchi and Yobe.

“We were all wake up in the evening before the top brainstorming.

“We did what the law allows: mention and praise our child.

“Other areas did not even have this obligation.

“We don’t have a vice -presidential ticket to offer.

“There is only one ticket: the president.

“Approach Tinubu with conditions would have been inappropriate.”

Salthu added that suggesting who should be Tinubu racing partner would be equivalent to “putting the cart in front of the horse”.
