Because I served food at the IMO – Peter Obi event

The former candidate for the presidency of the Labor Party, Peter Obi, explained the reason behind his very discussion gesture to serve the food to the participants in a recent event in the state of imo, describing it as an act of humility and service, not an advertising acrobatics.

The viral photo of Obi that personally stavivating the food to the “Jubilee of Hope” program had aroused reactions widespread on social media, with some critics who accuse him of managing the stage for political purposes.

By addressing the dispute in an X post, Obi clarified that the event did not concern him, but was destined to highlight the essence of the leadership of the servants. He said that many of the poor participants in the event specifically requested that he served them and could not reject them.

“My weekend activity to serve food in a special event has generated interest, as expected, because the leaders of our company removed the service component in the leadership,” wrote Obi.

He added: “It seems strange that I was seen serving food to people. Leave me clear, that event did not concern me. He was called the Jubilee of hope, and his purpose is simple – remind us all that the real leadership is the service.”

According to the former governor of the State of Anambra, the Jubilee of hope was organized to encourage the rich Nigerians to get out of their comfort areas and interact directly with the least privileged, not as a show but as a symbol of empathy and responsibility.

Obi stressed that the event was private and that initially did not invite the media coverage or published in this regard. However, photos and videos were shared by third parties not affiliated to his team.

“I am honestly surprised that this simple act has become a topic of discussion,” he said. “As a governor, I have always served the others during the events. Even now, in private life, I don’t have a help for the house. When guests visit my house, I serve them alone. I simply live. I swear, I clean. For me, humility is not a strategy for the campaign; it is a way of life.”

Obi also observed that it was not the only prominent figure who participated in the initiative that serves food. Among others there were Cardinal John Onaiyekan, Senator Osita Izunaso and Dr. ABC ORjiako, former president of Seplat Plc.

He concluded by underlining the need to make these acts of compassion a cultural rule, asking the owners of public offices, corporate leaders and citizens to join in raising the least privileged.

“We cannot talk about building a new Nigeria while we ignore the hungry, forgotten and the poor. A new Nigeria is possible,” said Obi.
