Benue Governor Alia speaks out after kidnapping of 20 medical students

Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has warned kidnappers and other criminal elements operating in the state to relocate immediately, as his administration will not rest until all forms of criminality in the state are eradicated.

The governor raised the alarm over the kidnapping of 20 medical students in the state, even as he urged security agencies to intensify efforts to ensure the safe release of the students.

The governor spoke in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Tersoo Kula, which was made available to journalists in Makurdi, the state capital on Saturday.

Mr. Alia, in his statement, condemned the kidnapping of medical students who were on their way to attend the Annual Convention of the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students (FECAMDS) in Enugu State on Thursday night.

The state Police Command has confirmed that 20 medical and dental students from the universities of Jos and Maiduguri, and a house officer were kidnapped in Otukpo on Thursday night.

The students, who were travelling to Enugu to attend the annual convention of the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students (FECAMDS) and their house officers, were reportedly ambushed and kidnapped in Otukpo.
