Former National President of the All Progressives Congress and former Governor of the State of Osun, Capo Bisi Akande, Wednesday, described the deceased former president Muhammadu Buhari as an angel in human flesh.
He said that his legacy of construction of the nation would continue to resist.
Akande, who led a delegation of political members to Kaduna to commiserate with the Buhari family, said that the news of Buhari’s death was a “painful personal loss” that shook him deeply.
He recalled his last meeting with the deceased president of Daura, in the state of Katsina, noting that Buhari had appeared “healthy and strong”, not giving any sign that death was imminent.
“I heard for the first time that he died when I was abroad. Before then, I met him in Daura after our party.
“We had fun together. He seemed robust, he was healthy, very strong,” said Akande.
The elderly statesman added that their conversation on that occasion was carefree.
“In a joke, I said I was returning to my village. He too said he was enjoying his village in Daura. When he moved to Kaduna, I was planning to come and see him here, and they told me he had traveled,” he said.
According to Akande, the sudden news of the disappearance of Buhari took him unprepared.
“I didn’t ask questions and I traveled. But when I was abroad, I learned that it passed. Very painful, very, very painful,” he complained.
He explained that on his return to Nigeria, his first duty was to make a visit to the family condolences.
“When I came back, I thought that the first thing I had to do was to come to meet the family, to commise with them and pray with them. And that’s what I came here to do today,” he said.
Akande made a brilliant tribute to the former president, describing it as a rare Nigerian leader whose influence would remain indelible.
“He was a great Nigerian. He was patriotic. Maybe he was an angel who arrived in human flesh, and had done his part. He had passed,” he said.
The head of the APC observed that the inheritance of service, integrity and discipline of Buhari would continue to inspire the Nigerians. “His spirit will continue to live forever because of the good work he has done in Nigeria,” said Akande.
The delegation of the condolence led by Akande included Senator Abu Ibrahim, former minister of youth and sports development, Sunday Dare, APC Stalwart, Alhaji Mahmud Abdullahi, general manager of the National Employment Directorate, Silas Agara and Convenience of the Tink Tank Arewa, Mohammed Alhaji Yakudu.
They were received in the residence of Kaduna of the deceased president by the former First Lady, Hajiya Aisha Buhari, and the eldest son of the family, Yusuf Buhari.
In his answer, Yusuf expressed profound gratitude to Akande and his entourage of being with his family during what he described as their “most difficult moment”.
He also thanked President Bola Tinubu for ensuring that the late Bohari received a suitable burial and dived.
“We are grateful to President Tinubu for remaining with us and give our father the honor he deserved. We also appreciate all the Nigerians for their prayers, their messages and their visits. The support we received was overwhelming and we do not take it for granted,” said Yusuf.
He said that the family would support the values of patriotism and sacrifice, which Buhari represented for life.
“Our father lived for integrity, discipline and service in Nigeria. We will continue to support these values and preserve his inheritance,” he said.
