Boakai’s recommits to Religious Freedom

President Joseph Nyumah Boakai on Thursday reaffirmed his government’s commitment to promoting religious tolerance as part of its efforts to develop Liberia.

Monrovia, July 4, 2025: Addressing Liberian Muslims HAJJ PILGRIMS at the Ellen Johnson- Sirleaf Ministerial Complex, President Boakai urged Liberians to entrench ethnicity and religious tolerance as a way to national development.

“As President of this nation, I remain deeply committed to the freedom of religion, and to ensuring that every Liberian, regardless of faith, ethnicity, or region, feels seen, respected, and included in the work of national development,” President Boakai said.

According to Mr. Boakai, Religious Freedom seeks to foster peace and unity, and as such, a nation seeking healing and reconciliation, must commit to religious tolerance.

In these times when our nation seeks healing, reconciliation, and renewal, I ask that you, our returning pilgrims, become ambassadors of peace. Be voices of wisdom in your communities. Stand against hate, division, and indifference, President Boakai stressed.

He called on Muslims to continue praying for the nation, but also urged for their compassion.

“Our country needs your prayers, yes, but it also needs your leadership, your compassion, and your example, Boakai said.

The Liberian Leader congratulated Liberian Muslim returnees and described their Journey as a testament of faith.

“To our dear pilgrims, welcome home! You have completed one of the greatest spiritual journeys in Islam, fulfilling the fifth pillar of your faith. Your presence here today is not just a confirmation of your individual devotion, but a source of pride for all of Liberia. We celebrate you, we honor you, and we pray that Allah accepts your Hajj and grants you the full blessings of this holy obligation, President Boakai said.

He urged Muslims to embrace faith as their continue prayers for Liberia, in their homes and communities.

“This moment is also a reminder that faith must guide our actions, not just in Mecca, but right here at home. The patience, humility, sacrifice, and unity that the Hajj teaches must now be carried into our homes, our communities, and our country. Let us be transformed not only in spirit, but also in character, seeking peace, speaking truth, and building a more just and inclusive society, President Boakai added.

For part, Minister for State without portfolio, Mamaka Bility, urged Liberians to unite by as Liberians, regardless of faith, ethnic groups, but they are all Liberians.

She charged Liberians to embrace, religion tolerance as Liberia is circular state and the best way to moving the country’s forward.
